Thank you everyone for a very successful transition and first half term of Year One. Hope you all have an enjoyable and relaxing half term.
Today Year 1 went on a shape hunt around the school. We were looking for 2D shapes and couldn't believe how many we found! Here are just a few photos. We're sure the children would love to tell you about lots of other shapes that they found in unusual places around the school.
Today in Year 1, we have been looking at bar graphs. We made a tally chart to record Year 1's favourite fruit and used this to make our own bar charts using cubes. We then answered questions about the graph by finding the difference. Here are some of the children in action!
Today we have made chocolate chip cookies. The cookies will be on sale at the PTA Bake sale after school tomorrow (Friday 21st) at 3.20pm. We had to follow instructions and follow health and safety rules. We had great fun. We even got to try some broken cookies! If you would like to make the cookies at home, this is the link for the recipe http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/1959642/easy-chocolate-chip-cookies .
After much planning and testing of materials, today we finally started to build our own houses for the three little pigs. We are using our value of patience if we didn't get our turn yet. Today's photos were taken by Owen and Libby.
Today we had an assembly from Mrs. Thomas-Woodhouse on the Boxes of Hope. Each child should already have come home with a leaflet. If possible please bring your shoebox into school before half-term.
Last week in our maths lessons, we looked at measuring. We measured the length of objects using rulers and the weight of objects using the balance scales. We used the words 'heaviest' and 'lightest' and ordered the objects. Here are a few photos of us in action.
We have been working really hard in Phonics and we are now ready to start teaching Phase 5 from Monday. This will include new phonemes and digraphs for different sounds. For example we know 'ai' as in 'snail in the rain'; next week we will learn it as 'ay may I play'. From Friday we will be sending home spelling lists differentiated for your child's ability. Spellings should be practised ready for a test on Thursday. If you have any queries about spellings please pop in to see us.
Over the last two weeks we have learnt a lovely kindness song with the Year Two children. The children performed it during Friday's Star of the Week Assembly and it was a big success. If you would like to listen to the orginal (and have your child sing the song) please use the link attached. In case you couldn't make the Great Artists Display sessions we have included photos of the displays for your viewing. The children worked extremely hard and have produced art work to a very high standard. Even the KS2 teacher were impressed with our work! |
